DetailsThe Nunton mermaid is based on a local legend in Benbecula.
A long time ago, some men were working on thier fishing nets, while the women were washing clothes. Suddenly they saw a starnge small creature who looked like a woman, but was child size. she had a tail, instead of legs. They were all very fearful, and the children who were playing nearby took on this fear and threw stones at her. The next day, a body of a mermaid was washed ashore. The people had a funeral for her and buried her at Nunton in Benbecula. No one has found her grave.
This mermaid was hand fabricated withs sheet silver 925 using a saw blade, and has some silver clay added for texture. she is quite large and has a silver chain so you can wear her around your neck. -
